Video: AICS supports capacity building in Myanmar Institutions
On April 30th, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation – Yangon Office attended the handover ceremony for the supply and installation of IT equipment to the Foreign Economic Relations Department (FERD) of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations (MoIFER).
The ceremony event, which saw the presence of Permanent Secretary of the MoIFER U Aung Naing Oo and the Italian Ambassador Alessandra Schiavo, stands in the framework of the project “Support to the Official Development Aid Coordination in Myanmar: Capacity Development of Donor Coordination (CAD-MM, AID 11087)”, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation to support Myanmar institutions strengthen human capital and resources towards effective good governance.
As for the IT supply, our contribution consists of modern technologies and devices such as 20 computers, 20 laptops, 40 Microsoft and anti-virus licenses, about 35 printers, video conference facilities, as well as reliable internet networks, in order to facilitate day to day work and operational activities of FERD. Installation and maintenance of the above-mentioned equipment is carried out by the ICT company KMD under the supervision of IT service provider NetSmart.
An additional AICS-funded initiative in support of the Myanmar Institutions is the provision of English courses. This stands in response to a direct request by FERD staff to improve their English command as key to develop capacity to liaise at senior level and gain confidence in the international landscape. The Italian funding enables n.60 FERD staff members to attend 8-hour classes per week, for 40 weeks total. Students are grouped in 3 different batches according to their English level. English courses run under the supervision of the education and training service EduLink.
